The iPhone Duo is not even in stores yet, but the rumor mill has already moved on to 2027, the iPhone's 20th anniversary year. The most consequential report of the past month came from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, who pushed back on a note from Jefferies analyst Edison Lee claiming Apple had canceled its all-glass anniversary phone. According to Gurman, the glass-centric redesign remains on schedule for 2027.
What the anniversary iPhone looks like
Gurman describes a phone that makes heavy use of glass, with the front and back wrapping around the edges to sandwich a thin metal band. MacRumors reports that Weibo leaker Digital Chat Station expects two sizes in Pro and Pro Max equivalents, matching the internal codenames V73 and V74 that Gurman has referenced. Apple reportedly considered an even more aspirational version with more glass but scrapped it early in development. Earlier reporting has pointed to an all-screen design as the goal for the anniversary model.
Foldables, generation two and three
The roadmap also includes a follow-up to the iPhone Duo. Gurman has said a second-generation foldable is already well into testing for a 2027 debut, with a new chip as the only confirmed change so far. A larger third-generation foldable is reportedly in development for 2028, according to a roadmap detailed by 9to5Mac.
Other 2027 items
- AirPods Pro with infrared cameras, originally expected this fall, have moved to 2027, with some reports saying late 2027
- The base iPhone 18, iPhone 18e and a second iPhone Air are expected in spring 2027, formalizing a split launch cycle
As always, none of this is confirmed by Apple, and plans a year out can change. But the picture emerging is of a 2027 lineup that is more ambitious than any single year since the original iPhone.
